Delicious homemade cookies from an awesome local business?! Yup! That's why Mrs. Barry's is usually the FIRST stop from the airport for our one-day work trips in Kona. Not convinced? There's always a plate of samples of a few selections of her yummy cookies. The cookies are always fresh and I always end up getting a dozen or two to bring home to friends and family. The variety of cookies is wide and includes coconut shortbread, macadamia shortbread, white chocolate macadamia, chocolate chip (and with macadamia), chocolate whirl, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, and probably more that I can't remember off the top of my head, because I was more focused on eating them rather than knowing exactly what I was eating.I decided to buy a dozen for my dad this past trip, and I saw that he had finished the bag in two days. Mrs. Barry's cookies are definitely for those who like it crunchy, which is why I give her 4 stars, because it's all a matter of taste and texture for me. They're delicious, but not the BEST I've had. Cookie Corner wins it in taste AND texture for me, because I DO love the crisp outside and soft insides. However, I CAN'T pass up on Mrs. Barry's when I do make my way to Kona. Mrs. Barry's is located a couple miles from the airport, which makes it the perfect stop on the way to the airport (if you make it before 5pm, of course) to take some cookies home. It's located in a very warehouse-y district on Kailua-Kona, which may make the establishment hard to find, but just look for the sign as you're driving! The cookies go GREAT with a hot cup of freshly brewed Kona coffee!

Flavors and price (most single cookies are under $1) are good, but cookies are straight up crunchy. Like if you were to take a cookie, place it in your palm, and high five yourself... you'll end up with cookie dust... no chunks even... just dust. I prefer softer, chewy cookies. Unlikely to buy these again.

Now I understand why these are award winning cookies! So good!! When you walk in you'll see jars full of cookies around the register. So many choices and you get to choose how many of whatever flavor you want. Pretty good price for the quality of cookie you're getting. There was so many to choose from I literally just got 1-2 of every one! You should definitely stop by here if you're a visitor. You won't regret it!

Stumbled upon this place on our way to Costco. It's sooooooo good!!! Our favorites are the snowy ones and the butter mac cookies. Prices are good - about $0.90 for each cookie. On our first trip, the very nice sales person allow us to mix and match a bag of a dozen cookie. (You get a discount when you buy a dozen.) After trying them, we were back the very next day! This place is way better than the other big island cookie company... Read the instructions on the bag for storing instructions. You are supposed to keep them in the fridge to retain the crunch! Lastly, do not leave this place until you get those snowy balls. This is the only place that I actually missed after I leave Big Island.

You seriously have to really like crispy crunchy cookies...this is what Hawaiian cookie baking is. If you are ever in Kailua-Kona (on the Big Island) this is the bakery to go for these type of cookies. Don't try to buy those pre-packaged Mauna Loa cookies you see at all the gift shops, you will be disapointed when you open the box and find most of them broken or in crumbs. Mrs. Barry's coconut macadamia nut shortbread is my absolute favorite and the regular mac nut shortbread comes in at a close second.

My friend gifted me a bag of these cookies when she got back from her Kona trip and I've been dreaming and lusting after them. If you drive out to Costco; make the quick detour and stop in for some cookies. The cookies are crunchy and perfectly made!! Service is fast and prompt and it isn't like the other pretentious touristy cookie factories on the island. Hits: Cookies!! Any of the shortbread cookies... especially the mac nut and the coconut. Misses: Nothing really except the chocolate chip cookie which was a good standard cookie that doesn't deserve the space to get hauled back to the mainland.

Every local knows, you go Big Island...you bring home Mrs. Barry's cookies. It's close to the airport and crunchy goodness. It's a small store in the industrial area near the airport. The cookies are made fresh with local ingredients. When you walk in your see glass jars full of cookies to choose. It's $8.95 for a dozen. There are: - coconut shortbread - chocolate dipped mac nut shortbread - mac nut shortbread - award winning mac nut, oatmeal, raisins, chocolate chips - chocolate chip mac nut - white chocolate mac nut - oatmeal raisin - chocolate chip - chocolate dipped peanut butter - peanut butter - chocolate whirl - Kona coffee chocolate crunch - Hawaiian wedding cookies I try to get a good variety but don't get the chocolate dipped since it's so hot, I know it would melt on my way back. My favorite is the award winning and the oatmeal raisin. The cookies are crunchy and have a good flavor. If you like soft or chewy cookies, these are not the cookies for you. They also come in a bag so be careful, when you pack them and make sure you don't drop them. Yes, we made that mistake and some of our cookies are broken. Broken but still good as Stitch would say. They also have a website and mail, in case you don't have time to to stop here for omiyage or in case you loved it so much, you need more. When in Kona, try these cookies!

If you're looking for a great gift to bring back home then stop by Mrs. Barry's Kona Cookies. Conveniently located near the Kona airport, they are open daily from 9am to 5pm (until 4pm on Sundays). Her cookies are very crispy and buttery. My family's favorite is the chocolate chip mac nut and the coconut shortbread is really tasty as well. Don't wait until the last minute to visit because you might be greeted by empty cookie jars.

Damn these cookies are good. I stubbled onto this place because my wife wanted look at flooring while we were on vacation in Hawaii. We live in California. Welcome to my world. So we drove up, against my will, into this large industrial center in the middle of paradise. I'm totally bummed at this point until I see a sign that reads "Mrs. Barry's Kona Cookies" on the adjacent building. So I let my lady know she'll be window shopping for flooring alone, I'm checking out Mrs. Barry's. It's a clean showroom of cookies all displayed in clear cookie jars. They all looked so good. I had trouble deciding, I started to feel overwhelmed, so I asked the clerk if she could make me make an assortment of different types. She suggested the prepackaged fresh assortment of a dozen. Good call clerk lady. We left the industrial center each nibbling on cookies as I tuned my wife out as she talked about the wonderful flooring products. Everyone was happy. The cookies are not moist, crunchy by design, which is a good thing. I learned a lot about cookies in my short visit to Mrs. Barry's as my wife learned about less practical stuff, flooring. You've got to have a favorite. Mine was the shortbread dipped in chocolate. My wife's was an oatmeal raisin.

Mrs. Barry's is and probably always will be my last stop in Kona right before I head to the airport. My rule is to get at least 2 dozen to bring home, every time. Don't ask me why because it's not like I'll die without my Mrs. Barry's fix! Don't get me wrong, I love Mrs. Barry's cookies. The cookies are good stuff but they're not the greatest. All of the cookies are crunchy and I prefer, soft and chewy cookies. But nonetheless, these cookies are scrumptious! They sell the cookies both fresh and pre-packaged. The shortbread cookies are available in gift boxes and they also sell the fresh-baked cookies in prepacked bags by the dozen. They also have chocolate dipped cookies available and they go for 20 cents more per cookie. No worries if you're not sure what types of cookies to buy, they offer free samples! My Favorites: +Chocolate Whirl +Shortbread +Award Winning Customer service is great, cookies are good and the location is perfect-not too far from the airport. I don't see any other reason not to stop by Mrs. Barry's before the end of each Kona trip!

Been bringing Mrs. Barry's cookies as gifts for years. Great fresh and tasting cookies. My favorite. The chocolate whirl Conveniently located below Costco and ample parking.

  • Peggy B.

Your trip is not complete without raiding Mrs. Barry's. We've been coming here for about 15 years. Dark chocolate-dipped mac nut shortbread, people!! Imagine one with a cup of fresh Kona coffee. That's breakfast right there. And instead of bringing back those...ubiquitous, sad...Hawaiian Host boxes, you can order and ship your friends MB cookies at the store. A must-stop.

This is a tiny store with delicious crunchy cookies! The person who helped us was really friendly and the cookies were great. My favorites ended up being the chocolate dipped shortbread cookies and anything with macadamia nuts. Be careful how you store the cookies though, we left them sitting in the condo and the humidity from having the windows open re-hydrated the cookies making them lose their crunchiness and they ended up crumbling a lot easier- still delicious though!!

Everything I wanted to say about Mrs. Barry's cookies, Lori I. already included in her review. I will, nonetheless, reiterate some of this very important information for any of you traveling to Kona because it is a MUST STOP. If you're going to the Big Island I know you have a rental car - there's really no other way to get around. You gotta fill up gas before you return the car and we all know, the cheapest gas around is at Costco - the only one on the island is conveniently located right between you and your hotel/airport - guess what you gotta pass by? MRS. BARRY'S! Even more convenient, they are open every single day of the week. Don't make excuses to your friends and family why you didn't bring them back anything! A dozen of pretty much any flavor of cookies runs you less than $10! This might not sound like cheap cookies to you but you try buying omiyage for less than ten bucks. It's not easy. My favorites are the plain jane chocolate chip - you can't go wrong and the melting moments (don't know if that's what they call them here but the shortbread ball covered in powdered sugar, you know which one I mean). They are all crunchy, crispy and delicious and you'll definitely want to get not only a dozen for your friends but a bag for yourself as well to pass the time while waiting for your flight!

  • Doris D.

Very good place to get gift cookies as you're leaving the Big Island from Kona side. Anything with mac nuts and/or chocolate is a winner. These are all crispy cookies, not soft baked if you're wondering.

My friend found this place last minute since we were looking for gifts for coworkers. This place sells some excellent homemade cookies. Lots of cookies in glass jars so you can see what you are buying. There are also free sample so you can be sure you'll love the cookies before purchasing osme. I went for the assorted cookie package, 18 cookies for $13. All my coworkers loved the cookies from here so this would make a great gift!

Make this your last stop in Kona before you return your rental car! OPEN DAILY 9-5, Sun 9-4. Accepts credit cards. Free samples. Nuf said. Located in the industrial area halfway between the Keahole-Kona airport and Kailua-Kona, this store is in a warehouse. No frills, no tours, no seating. Just get in and get out (and then fill your gas at Costco nearby). These cookies are crunchy and light and airy. (I prefer warm, soft and chewy, but I wasn't buying these for me, this was for the airplane ride and it needed to survive TSA and the overhead compartment). You can buy them single from the jar, a dozen in a bag, or as a dozen individually wrapped cookies in a nice red box. You can get the variety or the chocolate dipped shortbread in the red bags/boxes and they also had a smaller clear cellophane bag with shortbread dipped in different colors (pink, white, brown etc.) which was perfect. Don't buy the pre-packaged stuff at the airport, buy these cookies which are fresher and still survive the hand carry trip back home. Thanks Nat & Dave for sending me here, I never would have 'bumped' into this place otherwise.

COOKIE! I WANT COOKIE! Me want cookie now! Well, when a fellow foodie friend insists that we drive all the way out to the industrial area for cookies, you know we have to go and get some. As we made the trek from Kailua-Kona (town) to the industrial area that is halfway to the airport and down the first right and up the third (or was it the fourth) left off that road and into a non-descript warehouse, fear overcame me. Was this where my friends were bringing me to orchestrate my "disappearance?" Oh no...this is where the small "Mrs. Barry's Kona Cookies" came into the picture and my fears were quickly allayed. Once inside, you'll find a very wide ranging selection of cookies including shortbread, peanut butter, and of course varieties of chocolate chip cookies. Sold in individual, half dozen or dozen quantities, you can quickly become overwhelmed by the decision making process and ultimately stick to what you would know. However, try the samples and go beyond your comfort zone cause the flavors are definitely good. If all else fails, stick to their award winning mac nut, it is a good variety and not short on flavor! The cookies are a bit on the crunchier side but the flavors are complemented nicely with the buttery flavors that make your mouth water!

While I can't speak for the cookies since I'm unable to eat any of them (severe allergies to all nuts, even any kind of contact), they have great customer service and had a great selection of cookies. I bought a dozen for my kids including the chocolate covered shortbread cookies. I'm assuming they were delicious because they gobbled them down like there was no tomorrow. Lucky kids.

Kona's version of the chocolate chopped shortbread cookies. If u are staying in Kona and looking for the big island cookies, u won't find it on the kona side of the island. Fortunately, this place stacks up to the "other place" without making the 2-hr drive to Hilo Town. I highly recommend the chocolate dipped shortbread cookies. Its sooooo ONO!!

  • C E.

Will keep this really simple.... These cookies are Brilliant! ALWAYS freshly made. Got to let you know that there is a lot of butter but you cannot resist the crunch. Try them with a cup of 100% Kona coffee....you'll get the gist...

buttah buttah buttah....and more buttah but oh so ridiculously TASTY! It's off the beaten path towards the industrial area but if you're going to Costco to fill up on gas, you should drop by here and grab a bag of cookies. There's lots of glass jars with their variations of cookies. We got the shortbreads and coffee crunch. Both are DELICIOUS. Crunchy on the outside and just the right amount of chewiness in the center. This is for the CRUNCHY cookie lover!! I'm not sure if the server was just tired towards the end of the day but she really wasn't that enthusiastic that we were in the store. There's also other products throughout the room that are also for sale so be sure to look around and see if there's anything else you might want to pick up on your cookie break!

Horrible experience today. I bought a dozen cookies 6 each of two different types. My wife paid for the cookies and I went outside to be with my with my grand-daughter. We bought her an oatmeal raisin cookie which I took a bite and found it to be tasty. I went back into the store to change my purchase to now include those oatmeal cookies. I was told by the supposed lady/owner that they "normally" do not change the order like that. WHAT? The darn bag that THEY packed is still on THEIR counter, it had not left the counter top much less left the store and you do not CHANGE the order like that? I was totally appalled. According to my wife, she was not friendly, more like SHE was doing us a favor by making the cookies available to us. My wife and I are from Oahu, my sister-in-law and her boyfriend are from San Francisco, i work in a hotel and would not accept this kind of poor customer service. The cookies may be alright, but the customer service absolutely "SUCKS". Is it because we are not from the Big Island? One has to wonder.......

A lot to choose from but I like the white chocolate Mac nut cookie. I don't usually care for cookies, but these buggah's can turn me into a cookie monsta !!

In a word - YUMMY!!!! I was recently in Kona on vacation and came upon Mrs. Barry's Kona Cookies. Believe me when I tell you they are delicious!! We tried almost all the flavors over our week's stay in Kona, and I couldn't name one flavor that I didn't like. They are crunchy with just the right amount of sweetness. We ended up bringing them home for gifts for our friends and family. It is in an industrial area near Costco but don't let the outside fool you. It's the great cookies inside that won't disappoint you! We've been home from our trip now for a couple of weeks and still talk about wanting to go back there to get our afternoon "cookie fix"!

  • Amanda C.

Yum, the best cookies. We had to go here twice and bring some back home. Their shortbread is so light and airy and soooo good. I don't think I've had shortbread that good before. Coconut shortbread and chocolate dipped mac nut! Kona coffee and chocolate whirl was really good too. These cookies are crunchy cookies and would be great with some tea or a glass of milk.

The important thing here is: open 9am on Sunday in case you need to hit somewhere on the way to the airport AND it smells delicious.

    Delicious cookies!!

    (5)
  • Dorothy B.

The storefront isn't very fancy because all of the fanciness is baked inside the cookies. White chocolate macadamia nut, coffee chocolate chip, oatmeal chocolate chip, shortbread...I tried most of them. They're delicious and crisp, but not hard. I liked the choco macadamia nut the most but wouldn't turn down any of them.

VERY nice people run this place with two VERY cute dachshunds (although the little girl will probably be the only one to come out - the older dachshund is a little older and over all the visitors it seems)!!! I love supporting businesses who have owners who really seem to love their customers - and Mrs. Barry's makes it easy because their cookies are GREAT!!! I am usually a soft cookie person, but if done right the crispy ones can win my heart too. These are crispy cookies (ON PURPOSE in case that is over your head). My boyfriend and I had a weak moment and asked her to bag up a sample of each cookie (they have 13 kinds).. and we were not sad! The lady behind the counter (Mrs. Barry's daughter in law I gathered) even gave us a few extra samples - it was just a nice extra surprise! The shortbread cookies are all GREAT! I also love the peanut butter cookie dipped in chocolate - not to be missed! However!!! These are also very reasonably priced cookies, so if you decide to get every one, your wallet won't be hurting either! Just a suggestion....

It all started when Mrs. Barry (yes, she's a real person) was a teacher at Honokaa where her husband was the football coach, Legend has it that her cookies were so well-liked, she was urged to go into business. After Jim Barry went to Konawaena and began to build the Wildcats BIIF football dynasty, Mrs. Barry opened up a small retail space in the former Kona Inn shopping arcade in Kailua-Kona. It wasn't long before people began Mecca-like travels from all over the state to pick up bags of her various cookies. It has since outgrown its modest space and is now located a few miles north in the industrial park near the Kona Costco. Although it has traded the touristy trappings of the Kona Inn location for a more industrial setting, the cookies are no less tasty. People who receive them as "omiyage" enjoy them just as much as those from Big Island Candies. Neither is "better" than the other, just "different," in positive ways. I agree with the prior comments on the pre-packaged Mauna Loa brand cookies - they taste flat and are terrible.

  • Katrina P.

Pretty clean establishment. The cookies were delicious and crunchy. Guess that I'm only giving it 3 stars since my personal preference leans towards chewy and moist cookies. The selection was varied so points for that!

Excellent homestyle cookies. I love the chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies.

  • Megan S.

Cookies are so good. I found this place by mistake as it is nestled right below Costco. My family were visiting and wanted to check this place out which at first didn't even look like a storefront but when u go in they got a whole lot of cookies....yummy cookies!

  • StefnScottman I.

our family from big island always brings these yummy cookies to us when they come to the mainland....man people on the islands can sure bake! :)

  • Trisha G.

Best Kona OMIYAGE. Hidden in the new industrial area, near Costco, this place is my number one go to for omiyage when I visit home. My favorites include Chocolate Whirl and Coffee Crunch (made with real Kona Coffee). The standard Award Winning, Chocolate Chip and Oatmeal Raisin are all good choices as well. I usually grab a box of assorted, which comes with 18 individually wrapped cookies. Don't miss out - you can just get one (or two, or a dozen) for the road.

    (5)
  • Leslie S.

Omg! My moms friend brought back cookies that were out of this world. It was Mrs. Barry's cookies. So, I told myself, whenever I get to Kona I will check it out. I finally got there and it was great to sample the different cookies and bring them back to Oahu for family and friends. And...they are right by the airport and Costco. Great omiyage gift.

    (5)
  • Esther S.

We stopped here on our way to the airport since we didn't get a chance to make it to Big Island Candies. And I must say the cookies were not bad. I get what the previous reviewers were saying about it being crunchy. I loved the chocolate dipped peanut butter cookie...it would've been better chewy. But still yummy!

    (4)
  • Annah D.

Inexpensive, delicious cookies. I bring these cookies back as gifts for friends every time I go to Kona, and it's gotten to the point where my friends are placing orders iwht me before I go. Pretty inexpensive and DELICIOUS! I love the chocolate dipped macadamia nut cookies.

  • Lan E.

Found this recommendation on Yelp and the reviews were right. The cookies here are awesome. This place is in an industrial area but pretty easy to find. Good to pick up cookies on your way to fill up gas at Costco (right up the street) before leaving for the airport. The cookies are crispy and taste great. My favorites are the white chocolate Mac nut and the award winning cookie. Perfect omiyage from Kona.

  • Julia K.

Yummy yummy cookies I get to try the first time I get to go Kona! They are absolutely scrumptious. It's really good that they give samples because you get to try how great their cookies taste if you never had them before. They have pretty good deals for the cookies and the choices available is enough for you to be satisfied.

    (4)
  • Steven B.

I bought a dozen mixed cookies while visiting Kona in December 2013 and really enjoyed them. Mrs. Barry was very friendly and they offer a great assortment. Treat yourself to something yummy! It's located down the hill from Costco.

    (4)
  • Dennis L.

The COFFEE CRUNCH was amazing. They don't hold back when they break up fresh samples for you to try when you walk in. All the cookies are held by their type in their respective glass jars with wood/bamboo tops. I'm not sure if that's just for looks or what, but I garnered that it must be because they're baked fresh daily. Their cookies are on the harder side, but if you're looking for softer and more crumblier, go for the shortbread cookies. Service wasn't too friendly during our visit. Maybe just a case of the Mondays. I also saw that they ship cookies to the mainland so you don't have to make the trip all the way back to enjoy their cookies.

    (4)
  • Margaret R.

Expected this place to be a small, family-run bakery. It's not. It's a real business that ships cookies to the mainland. The woman at the counter also wasn't very friendly. Just handed us our cookies and went on with next shipment. The cookies were definitely very crispy. Our fav were the chocolate whirl and the oatmeal cookies. The cookies are cheap - 75 cents each.

  • Keromi K.

I am normally not a fan of nutty, crunchy cookies but came to Mrs. Barry on the recommendation of the valet of our hotel. These cookies are delicious and airy! I bought a dozen cookies and I think I need to go back to get more. My only complaint is that the store is a little out of the way and parking isn't great.

    (4)
  • John P.

Wow. Its like I visited a whole other cookie shop. I don't know what these other folks were talking about, but these were the worst cookies I've ever had. My wife loves cookies, and the Hawaii guide book recommended the shop so we went. Man what a disappointment. We got three different kinds and ALL of them were over-cooked to the extreme. They were disgusting, hence the worst Yelp rating I've ever given. Skip this place.

    (1)
  • Jen S.

It's ALL about the coconut shortbread-- oh HELLS YEAH! Also recommend the mac nut shortbread and the wedding cookies, but they're all delicious. I wish there had been more of a selection when we arrived, but it was about an hour before closing and we nearly cleaned them out! C is for cookie, that's good enough for me!

    (5)
  • Allan H.

DELICIOUS cookies! The GF and I just happened to see this on our way back from Costco as it's just down the street. Freshly baked and great tasting! The staff was great and offered us samples to try. We ended up having a few boxes shipped back to the mainland for our families. Especially loved the Macadamia Nut Shortbread Cookies & the chocolate dipped ones too. The peanut butter ones were very good too.

    (5)
  • Linda B.

Don't listen to the Texan..what do they know? Hardly "disgusting" - if they were so "over-cooked" as he said, he should have returned them. But I bet they still finished them. Try them for yourself. I have no real favorites, but the Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut were special. If you are a chocolate lover, try anything with chocolate. My Hubby loved the Peanut Butter. We love these cookies and send/bring them as gifts for friends. Its location is a bit out of the way, and sending them to the Mainland is pricey. So either hand carry them or send them yourself! This is the only reason I held back on giving them 5 Stars and rated them as "Expensive". But, judge for yourself. The folks at the Shop are friendly, helpful and patient!
